Why I Started West Co

People often ask me where the idea for West Co came from.

The truth is, it didn’t begin with activewear. It began with a feeling.

Growing up, I always loved being outdoors. Whether it was walking along the coast, exploring somewhere new or watching the sunset, nature has always been the place I go to slow down and reset.

But the more I spent time outside, the more I realised something.

For a lot of women, the outdoors can feel intimidating.

Adventure has often been portrayed in one way: rugged, extreme and traditionally masculine. At the same time, women’s activewear has largely been designed for the gym, not for the moments that happen beyond it.

I wanted something different. I wanted clothing that felt just as at home on a hiking trail as it did meeting friends for coffee afterwards. Pieces that made you feel confident, comfortable and like yourself wherever the day took you.

But as I thought more about it, I realised West Co could become something much bigger than clothing.

I didn’t just want to create products.

I wanted to create a reason for people to get outside.

A reason to say yes to the sunrise walk.

To try a new trail.

To meet someone new.

To spend less time behind screens and more time making memories.

That’s where the idea for West Co Club came from. Because while clothing can help you feel confident, it’s the experiences that stay with you. Some of my favourite moments since starting West Co haven’t been product launches or photoshoots.

They’ve been watching complete strangers meet on a Sunday morning and leave as friends. Seeing women who arrived feeling nervous spend the next few hours laughing together on a trail. Watching a simple walk turn into plans for coffee, rock climbing or another adventure.

Those are the moments that remind me why I started.

West Co has never been about creating more clothes. It’s about creating a lifestyle that encourages women to step outside, explore more and find confidence through adventure.

The products are simply one part of that story.

The real adventure is everything that happens when you wear them.
